I remembered the day when I was walking along the lengthy Ayala path, going to Greenbelt when a man approached me. It was never my intention to really apply because I came from the province and I am looking forward that after passing the Nursing Licensure Examinations, I will practice my nursing career, and be a staff nurse in a 300+ bed capacity hospital in our province. He was so enticing and he can really speak in English - without any delay and hardship. If not because of my relatives' want for me to take up nursing, I would really love to take Mass communication, broadcasting, journalism, photojournalism or speech pathology as my degree. But then again, I need to really be justifiable and smart with my decisions, I really need to have a degree and having the nursing course will take me there.
Who knows? After a year or two working and going abroad and earning that big chunk of money, I can send myself to study at Harvard, Northwestern, Carnegie, Stern or Stanford – well that was my thinking before. Everything changed, when the idea came to my mind that I can continue my love of speaking and talking to other people; touching their lives by joining this industry. The call center industry, which doesn’t care much about credentials and undergraduate degree, has been my asylum. Thanks Convergys, you equipped me with the necessary training that I was able to use till now in making a stand and a career in this industry.
Let me give you a background of Convergys and the things
that might entice you working here. I also want people to start their career
with companies alike with Convergys because I know that joining such companies
will give them the necessary attitude and skills for them to be promoted
someday and also for them to take their day-to-day responsibilities easily.
According to Wikipedia, Convergys Corporation is a
corporation based in Cincinnati, Ohio, that sells customer management and
information management products, primarily to large corporations. Customer
management products include agent assisted, self-service and care software tailored
to the communications, financial services, and technology, retail, healthcare
and government markets. Information management provides convergent billing and
business support system (BSS) products and services including revenue
management, product and order management, and customer care management to
telecom, utilities, and cable/satellite/broadband service providers. They have
approximately 125,000 employees across 31 countries.
A snapshot of History
The company grew from Cincinnati Bell Information Systems
and MATRIXX, both subsidiaries of Cincinnati Bell, and AT&T Solutions
Customer Care (formerly AT&T American Transtech), which was sold to
Cincinnati Bell in 1998; an IPO in August 1998 made it a fully independent
company. Since then, Convergys' headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, has acquired
numerous companies.
Convergys sold its Human Resources Management line of
business to NorthgateArinso in March 2010.
On 22 March 2012, Japanese technology firm NEC announced it
would buy the Information Management Business of Convergys for approximately
$449 million. In 2012, Convergys Philippines, 8 years after its entry into the
country established 18 centers with 26,000 employees in all, was named “BPO
Employer of the Year” at the annual International ICT Awards.
On April 30, 2013, Convergys completed the acquisition of
New Zealand based Datacom call center operations in Kuala Lumpur and Manila for
$20 million.
On January 6, 2014, Convergys and Stream Global Services
announced entry into a definitive merger. Under the agreement, Convergys will
acquire Stream for a total enterprise value of $820 Million in cash. On March
3, 2014; Convergys completed the acquisition of Stream, creating the 2nd largest
BPO provider in the outsourcing industry. The merger brings their total
employees to approximately 125,000 with 150 centers in 31 countries supporting
47 languages.
So if you are planning to apply to any Convergys sites, it
will be easier, if you know where to find them right? Well, in every big city I
believe they have an established center there, well safe to say mostly.

of this company are:
Health Insurance - High
cost, great deductible; lots of selections to choose from, but most are
relatively the same. Their health insurance is covered by intellicare and you
can as well add dependents for free.
Vacation & Paid
Time Off - Ample time off, but sometimes work load doesn't enable to use it.
You need to have it approved by your immediate supervisor at least a week
before the scheduled vacation or leave. When I started there before it is 15
Vacation Leaves and 15 Sick Leaves.
Retirement Plan – at least
5 years of service to the company will make you entitled for this; this was
when I started way back 2010 and I don’t know if this is still on-going.
Professional
Development – they will give you the best training on your chosen career path (IT, Reporting, Scheduling, Managing or Training).
Tuition Assistance – if
you are a college undergraduate or a high school graduate and wanting to have
that bachelor’s degree, you will profit from this benefit.
